Special education teacher
My name is Mariana Oprea. I was born in Europe but developed as an educator in the US. I taught middle and elementary age students with disabilities for eight years in Orangeburg and Clarendon County, SC. I moved to North Carolina in 2010 and worked at Porter Ridge High School as an EC teacher. In 2011, I started the TTA -Special Needs program at Piedmont HS. In 2015 I returned to SC to teach at Nation Ford HS. I was selected as a 2012-2013 World Affairs Council Scholar, in which I received a $2500 scholarship to travel to Thailand with other educators. While in Thailand, I established two sister-schools. As part of the Council Scholar Program, I was recognized at the 2013 World Citizen Award Dinner. My membership will give me the opportunity to coordinate seminars and roundtable discussions with past scholars and experts for curriculum development and professional interaction. In 2014 I was nominated Global Teacher Leader for Union County. Part of this program was to provide professional development for schools in the area of Globalization. In December 2015 I was selected as National Geographic Educator of the week. My goal is to share my experience.
